Edible Cake Flowers: Helpful Ideas



Cakes blend well in any and almost all occasions.  From weddings, birthdays and simple bon voyage parties, cakes can be easily the cherry on top of these celebrations.  It is for this reason that cake decorating ideas have also reached the point of endless possibilities.  Of the striking enhancement options in cakes, the use edible cake flowers are by far the most popular.  No longer are flowers limited to grace the tables.  They also change the faces of cakes.  Undeniably, they are decorative embellishments and they also serve some yummy goodness.

Culinary flowers, on the other hand, are more elegant. Also, the fresh touch to the cake is readily noticeable.  Aside from that, there are just so many blossoms to choose from in order to satisfy a certain taste or style for a cake on a particular occasion.  Beforehand, though, it is important to know some basic helpful ideas before jumping off to the next flower that you see.

First and foremost, you should decide on the theme of occasion first.  Settling on the color, the type of festivity or gathering, and even kinds the participants, will help in determining as to what type of cake you will have.  In doing so, the picking of the right embellishment will be an easier step.

As you harvest the flowers, clean them up and remove the stamen or the pistils, mostly retaining the petals. And if you are postponing the use of them, preserve them by storing in the refrigerator inside a sealed container with moist paper towels at the base. You can save them for up to ten days, until your special day arrives.
